Nymea 0.25 release notes

Just in time for the holidays, here it is, nymea 0.25.0, and it’s packed!

The big news for this release is ZigBee support. Nymea now supports connecting to ZigBee devices like Philips Hue, IKEA Tradfri and loads and loads of others directly without any bridge. All it’s needed is one of the supported ZigBee dongles directly connected to the nymea system. Currently supported are ZigBee dongles are deCONZ models (ConBee I & II as well as RaspBee) and NXP JN51XX adapters (requires a custom nymea firmware).

During the implementation we had to learn that a lot of ZigBee devices do not adhere the ZigBee specification to a 100% and so we can’t guarantee all ZigBee devices to work properly yet. However, a whole lot are supported and tested already. For now, we’re still tracking the device support status in this google document until this stabilizes more and we’ll put a proper list up somewhere. Please make sure to let us know if you have a device that we haven’t tested yet.

But this is by far not all. The has received a design refresh. It is still nymea:app as you know it, but looks a bit more modern now.

Along with some other smaller features, like auto-saving for the script editor, it has also been translated to Dutch by our community (Thanks!).

Smart rules received a new feature to allow comparison to other states which allows more flexible rules to be created with the wizard, without the need of scripting.

Of course, also this release gained some new integration plugins or added support for more things in existing plugins: Along with the before mentioned new ZigBee plugins, most notably the Home connect and Shelly plugins. Home Connect allows to connect your household devices supporting the home-connect API (dishwasher, oven, coffee maker, fridge and more) to nymea and the Shelly plugin gained support for a whole range of new Shelly devices: 1L, 2, 3EM, H&T and Button 1.

The nymea team wishes everyone a wonderful time during the holidays and all the best for the new year.

Hi @ll!

I wish everyone a happy new year 2021!!!
I’m facing a problem with the new zigbee integration. It’s not possible for me to connect to the zigbee network. I’m working with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Nymea 0.25.1 and Deconz with Conbee II. I can see the usb stick in the zigbee setting, but it doesnt work for me.

Is there a trick to get this work?

Thanks a lot.

Can you please open the debug interface (in systems settings, developer tools) and enable all ZigBee logging in there? Then re-setup the ZigBee network and send us a debug report from there.

Hi mzanetti,

Thanks for your fast response…

Thanks for your help!

Hi. This looks like the deconz software is running too on this machine. That will conflict with nymea.

If you want to use zigbee directly with nymea, you’d need to shut down the deconz software.

If instead you prefer to keep your existing deconz setup and just attach nymea to it, it should be possible to enable the hue bridge emulation in deconz and connect to that with nymea by setting it up as a hue bridge. See this thread for an example how to get that going: Hue Bridge wrong ip

Hi!

OK - i tried just a Rpi 4b with the official Rpi image and the conbee II with newest firmware.
Same behavior like before:

Thanks

Hmm… It fails to read the firmware version. We received a report for such an issue with the Conbee I stick the other day in our Telegram group. It turned out that the very latest firmware of the stick changes something which would prevent nymea from being able to start it up. I can only guess right now that the Conbee II might have the same then.

If you’re willing to go through the fuss of downgrading the stick firmware, it might help us to verify if it’s that. In any case we’ll be looking into this.

Here’s the issue I’m referring to: https://github.com/nymea/nymea/issues/377

OK - I can tell you the following firmware is working: deCONZ_ConBeeII_0x26570700.bin.GCF
Any newer firmware will not work.

Thanks for your fast help. It would be perfekt to get the newer firmwares working.

Have a nice day.

BTW - nice zigbee integration. The most is working as expected - except the ability to connect alexa. Do you know when the alexa integration will come?

Hopefully soon. Can’t promise any particular date but there are working prototypes for an Alexa skill already. Some issues need to be sorted out still before it’s ready.
